Shengyang Wu is a founding partner of Alpha Law LLP. His practice focuses on personal injury litigation, with particular emphasis on cases involving pedestrian and motor vehicle accidents, construction-related injuries, premises liability, and Article 78 proceedings against municipalities. Wu also handles matters in labor and employment law and construction law dispute resolution.
Prior to founding Alpha Law LLP, Wu served as counsel at a prominent plaintiff firm in Lower Manhattan, where he represented clients across the supreme courts of New York City’s five boroughs.
Wu is a member of the American Association of Justice and served as Co-Chair of the Solo and Small Firm Practice Committee of the New York County Lawyers Association from 2018 to 2024. He participates as a panelist for legal referral services with the Asian American Bar Association of New York and has provided pro bono legal services throughout his career. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his pro bono work on behalf of underserved minority communities was recognized by the New York Law Journal, which named him one of 27 Rising Star Honorees across New York State in 2021.
Wu served as a trustee of the U.S. WeChat Users Alliance in its First Amendment challenge against the Trump administration’s executive order banning WeChat. 488 F. Supp. 3d 912 (N.D. Cal. 2020).
Representative Experience
Constitutional Law — First Amendment
U.S. WeChat Users Alliance v. Trump, 488 F. Supp. 3d 912 (N.D. Cal. 2020). Served as a trustee for the leading plaintiff organization in a First Amendment challenge against the federal executive order banning WeChat. The court granted a nationwide preliminary injunction, upheld unanimously by the Ninth Circuit. The executive order was withdrawn by the Biden administration in January 2021.
CATASTROPHIC INJURY — SETTLEMENT, $7,500,000
A teenage pedestrian was struck and dragged by a New York City Transit Authority bus in Brooklyn, suffering severe leg injuries that narrowly avoided amputation. The high-exposure matter, brought against a government transit authority, drew public attention including comment from the Mayor.
WRONGFUL DEATH — SETTLEMENT, $1,000,000
Represented the estate of a senior pedestrian struck and killed at a Staten Island intersection. Supreme Court of New York, County of Richmond, Index No. 722386/2023 (settled 2024; compromise approved by decree of the Richmond County Surrogate's Court, 2026).
WRONGFUL DEATH
Represented the estate of a five-year-old boy fatally struck by a vehicle in College Point, Queens (settled 2025).

Represented the estate of a nail salon employee killed when a drunk driver crashed into the establishment in Deer Park, Long Island (2024).
PERSONAL INJURY — SETTLEMENT, $395,000
Represented a couple rear-ended in 2024 when no police responded to the scene. Recovered $395,000 despite the absence of a police report — the gap insurers routinely use to deny claims.
REAL ESTATE LITIGATION — TITLE RECOVERY
Represented Landco H&L, a Chinese investment entity, in a title dispute over the landmark AM&A building in Downtown Buffalo, New York. In June 2026, Supreme Court Justice John B. Licata awarded title back to Landco, voiding a 2020 unauthorized sale to a third party. Landco had previously obtained city approval for a project of up to $70,000,000 to convert the building into a 300-room hotel for Asian tour groups visiting Niagara Falls.
CIVIL RIGHTS — PROPERTY RIGHTS
Initiating attorney in a landmark constitutional challenge to Florida's SB 264, which restricts real-property purchases by certain Chinese nationals, litigated on equal-protection and fair-housing grounds.
